Masturbation Myths Debunked

You may have seen Betsy Boudoir’s founder Elysia in the press this week, talking all about masturbation!
The articles generated lots of controversy and there were mixed opinions seen in the comments. Whilst many people only had positive things to say, we thought we’d address a few of the myths surrounding self-love.

The Myth
Masturbation makes your vagina ‘loose’.
The Truth
Your vagina does not get "loose" or "stretched out," no matter how many times you have sex, how many partners you have sex with, or how much you masturbate.
Sex does not change the shape of your vagina. I mean, you've put a lot of food in your mouth through the years; has that turned your cheeks and lips into a big floppy mess? Nope! Because your mouth is full of muscles, and so is your vagina.
Even childbirth doesn't necessarily permanently change the size of a vagina. According to some researchers, a vagina will be back to roughly its pre-birthing size six months after giving birth. You are definitely not getting "loose" from enjoying yourself.

The Myth
You shouldn’t be talking about masturbation - especially as a parent as it’s embarrassing for your children.
The Truth
Whilst none of us like to think of our parents as sexual beings, it’s a good job they were, or we wouldn’t exist! Talking openly about masturbation can help reduce the stigma and shame surrounding it. There is no need to be ashamed - masturbation is a healthy way to get to know your body. There’s even health benefits like helping to stave of depression, insomnia, and boosting the immune system, according to experts.

The Myth
Masturbating often isn’t healthy!
The Truth
Masturbation doesn't cause any harm, either physically or mentally, even if you do it often. Your genitals may feel sore if you masturbate a lot in a short space of time.
